Step 1: Attract the Reader’s Attention Use: + Clever words—a good theme or ttle for the brochure, good descriptive advertising copy about the activities, amenities, ete + Bright colors, dramatic photos, creative graphics, interesting fonts—but make sure the brochure isn't so “busy” that i's hard to read! All of these things will get the reader to pay attention to your brochure—and that's the first step, Step 2: Offer a Solution Now that you've caught the reader's interest, you need to hang on toit. The readers interest is directly linked to a need or a desire. (Remember everything we leamed about needs and wants.) Offer the solution for that need or desire with a clear statement of the reward. For example: ‘+ Get away from it all wth the one you love (desire: privacy, fun, relaxation, or romance) + See the magnificent Canadian Rockies (desire: to see something beautiful, to enjoy the outdoors) +Summer fun for the whole family (desire: entertain the family) + Children under 12 get in for free on Tuesdays (need. children’s entertainment at a reasonable price) Different readers have different interests and different solutions would appeal to them. So think about your target market. What's in ifor them? The more benefits the better. Step 3: Call the Reader to Action So you ve got their attention and you've offered a solution to their need or desire. Now you want them to do something about it Clear directions will entice the reader to take action. For example: + Buy now for a discount + Mark your calendars + Space Limited—Act Now Usually the goal is to encourage people to buy tickets or make reservations right away, Step 4: Share Information Now that you've convinced them to take action, they need the information + Date and time + Location + Prices and how to purchase (via email, web, creditcard, cash, check) ge + Contact information (website address, phone number, contact person, etc.) Copyright © 2007-2011 Nationa \cademy Foundation All rights reserved
