26 30 Dear, Mom Well mom | really had a tough day, there were more bombings then there usuelly is. ‘The trench got really muddy because It rained today and has been raining for the past weck. | Saw one of my friends die before my own ayes siowly from the gas because he wasn't woaring his gas mask it was terrifying. The trench is jut getting filled with rats | see them everywhere and | got loads of fice in my hair. There are dead people everywhere the files are just swarming the bodies, the smell is just terrible. They are now using these tanks to shoot into our trenches and there's shrapnel everywhere, | even saw it go into someone's body. / vividly remember the terrible conditions summers and winters are very hard to survive they have intense heat and intense cold weather. | saw these soldiers on the other side with machine guns and rifles. Today one of my men got shol in the face by a sniper while trying to get aver the barbed wire, so many innocent lives were lost. No mans land is too dangerous to cross, ! am 50 Lucky to have survived- | will never forget those who died fighting along side of me. | love you mom and | will be coming home soon. love, mer
