Unit Seven Project: Prism Diorama

Assignment:
Your task is to create your own cityscape to resemble part of the downtown of a
major city- your design can be based on any city of your choice or one you make up
1. Part A: You must plan your diorama on grid paper; calculate the dimensions,
and find the area and volume of each shape. Create a scale to make your
project more resemble the real world. Record these steps showing your work
for each calculation.
2. Part B: Build your diorama- you can use any material(s) you want. Your
dimensions should match up with your planning.
Checklist:
Part A: Your design must include the following

1 rectangular prisms
1 square prisms
1 triangular prisms
1 cylinder
2 different shapes- hexagon, pentagon, pyramid etc.

Buildings in your city- should have the following:


1 water storage facility- such as a reservoir, water tank, swimming pool, etc.
1 emergency building- such as a hospital, fire station, etc.
Calgary has bylaws regarding various factors. You need to take into account the
following restrictions on the use of land in your city:
No more than 75% of the land area can be covered by structures.
There must be allowances made for parking on the streets in your city.

extra prisms- hexagonal, pentagonal, etc.)
You MUST calculate the area of land covered by buildings.

Part B: Build your diorama
Build your model
Use color- paint, markers, colored plasticine, etc.
Your city should be creative and appealing
