opportunityforaCuratorofBotany.
Role
ReportingtotheHeadofLifeSciences,thesuccessfulcandidatewillacttoincrease
knowledgeofAlberta'snaturalheritagethroughthestudyandpreservationofvascular
andnonvascularplants.ThispositionensureshighqualitydocumentationofAlberta's
plantdiversityandaccessforthebenefitofAlbertans.
Asthesuccessfulapplicant,youwillleadaprogramthatcommunicatesinformationabout
plantstodiverseaudiencesthroughindependentscientificresearch,permanentand
temporaryexhibitions,publications,otherformsofoutreach,andoneononeinteraction
withthepublic.Specificresponsibilitieswillinclude:
Planningandconductingbotanicalresearchandcollectiondevelopmentactivities.
Participatingoninterdisciplinaryteamstocreatenewnaturalhistorygalleries
Developingandcuratingspecimenbasedreferencecollections
Maintainingadatabaseofinformationassociatedwithspecimensinthereference
collectionsaswellassupervisingpublicandscholarlyaccesstothecollections.
Networkingwithcounterpartsinindustry,academe,government,andNGOs,toidentify,

tomeetobligationstointernalandexternalclients
Thesuccessfulapplicantwillparticipateinmuseumredevelopmentactivities,including
gallerydevelopmentandpreparingcollectionsforamovetothenewmuseumdowntown.
Theidealapplicantwillbemeticulous,haveexcellentorganizationalskills,andgood
laboratoryandcommunicationskills.Heorshemustalsobeabletoworkeffectivelyina
teamsettingandahighlycollaborativeandinterdisciplinaryenvironment.
Qualifications
Arelatedpostsecondaryeducationfromanaccrediteduniversityandmuseumrelated
experiencearerequired.Knowledgeofcurationofbotanicalspecimensaswellasfield
andlaboratoryresearchtechniquesisessential.Anunderstandingofpolicies,
regulations,andstatutesgoverningcollecting,safehandling,preparation,andtransport
ofspecimensisalsorequired.Asolidbotanicalresearchandpublicationhistoryis
important.Supervisoryexperienceandexperiencecommunicatingnaturalhistory
informationtoavarietyofaudiencesisdesired.PhDwillbeanasset.Equivalencieswill
beconsidered.
Salary
$2,707.94to$3,549.74biweekly(~$70,677to$92,648annually)

Thiscompetitionmaybeusedtofillcurrentandfuturevacanciesacrossgovernment
Travelandfieldwork(oftenunderarduousconditions)arerequiredinthisposition.
Successfulcandidatemusthaveavaliddriver'slicenseandagooddrivingrecord.
