Editing Booklet

Joe Horgan

Import and Storage

For our production we decided to use mainly Sony

Vegas pro 12 and Adobe After effects.

We edited our music video in separate parts to

ensure every section was to a high standard, after
this we then put them together forming our video.

We used 2 SD cards in different cameras to shoot our

video, we started by transferring all footage onto the
computer which we then organised and choose
which shots will go towards are final video. Using a
HDD allows you to edit the footage on several
different devices.

Warp Stabiliser

Warp stabiliser is used in After Effects, it is applied in order to

perfect any bumps and stabilises the filming in case of any
errors when filming.

To correct this we used filter effect called Warp Stabiliser this

is used to warp parts of the video to hide any flaws but it may
result in some parts of video may looking out of place, for
example this is commonly happens to the shadows in the video.
However as a glide cam was used there was very little needed
to be done.

Controlling the pace

The shot is inserted into the timeline of the music using Sony
Vegas drag and drop. The shots are then to be individually
edited in order to fit the correct tempo of the song by
shortening, extending, slowing down or speeding up the
particular clip.

To do this you need to hold down Control and extend the

footage to slow it down or shortening the footage to speed it up.

Cutting to the beat

In order to cut to the beat, we added markers at the end of clips to make it
simple for us to match the respective clip to the part of the song. In addition
to this, it is easy to see drops and fast pace parts of the song by looking at the
audio bar.

This is done by pressing M at the correct time. We then repeated this process

throughout the video, depending how much editing is needed for each shot

Colour correction

Next we edited the colour correction. This means changing the

colour temperature of the video to ensure that it suits the type of
feeling we are trying to achieve in the video, in this case we were
aiming to convey sadness, regret and the feeling of distance. We
done this by clicking the Video FX tab and selecting colour
correction and changing the temperature to the desired
parameters.

Text message overlay

On top of our current shots and editing we decided to add in a text

message overlay in order to secure the achievement of a distinction for the
music video. To do this there was a more complicated process than the
previous editing as it requires calculations, custom movements and small
coding.

After editing the overlay we exported the footage using a advanced

programme named algorithm on Adobe After Effects to ensure a
professional look was achieved.
