2800 E130th Updates

2800 has been approved for


demolition and the contract is
moving forward. The tentative date for demolition is
between June 25 and July 8 of 2016. This building is
larger and older than the buildings torn down previously,
so it will cost more to tear down at $154,000. The county
funds are capped at $100,000, so we the city is tapping
into other resources to make up the rest.

Concentration in Investment
To date, more than $300,000 of public funds

has been spent or allocated to E130th Street


for the demolition of 3 condemned buildings.
The average cost of demolition in Cuyahoga
County is $10,000 per building
The amount of public funds being put into an
area as small as E130th Street is
unprecedented in Cuyahoga County
The money being put into E130th Street could
be a sign of upcoming investment and a bright
future

2804 S. Moreland Updates

2804 was considered


for demolition, but it
was decided that the
building is salvageable
In the beginning stages of discussion in the E130 St.
Task Force, two possible developers for 2804 and the
empty lots have come forward. They and their plans will
be detailed in future slides.

Complications:
Tax Super Lean Holder is Daven Port Financial
Former owner, Shaker Town LCC, had a

delinquent tax amount of $40,000.


Owner of the building is different than the tax
lean holder
All debts and delinquencies need to be cleared
before the building can be bought and
developed.

Possibilities for Development


Medina Creative Housing, Jennifer Witner
Nonprofit Housing and services for the mentally

and physically disabled


Received grant from the Cleveland Foundation
requiring them to develop in Cuyahoga County
Have estimated that they have enough funding
sources to fund the remodeling of 2804 S.
Moreland and a possible expansion onto the
13020 Drexmore Rd. lot.
Estimate room for 14-20
units.

Cameras
A security survey has identified the most

needed spots for security.


20 state of the art cameras, costing $10,000
each, will be bought in phases and placed in
the most needed areas.
Cameras will be monitored from the fourth

district police department

A private security company paid for by

building owners and other community


stakeholders, patrols the street by car and on

Community Involvement
Apartment owners need to come together and

get on the same page. They need to agree on


standards they have for the street and what
they can all do to get the street to that
standard.
Recognizing how much of an asset Shaker
Square is, and how it is an invaluable asset to
E130th, with make the owners and tenants
want to secure their street.

Community Outreach

Community Survey
Tenants were contacted and asked to fill out a

community survey asking about what they see


as problems on the street.
Results ranged from crime, drugs, mental
illness, violence, unemployment, to poverty as
a whole.
The residents recognize the problems they
face. The next step is to come up with
manageable solutions.

Helen Simpson Park


We requested increased police
presence in Helen Simpson Park
with focus on enforcing open
container laws. This will make
the park a safer, more family
friendly environment.

Community Plans and Events


Flower baskets donated by Peter Rubin will be

put along E130th St.


The summer block party has been set for the
last weekend in June, June 25.
A community newsletter
was distributed on the
block, and more
newsletters will be
regularly distributed

Next Steps: Post Office

Poor exterior building conditions, poor parking

lot conditions
Office is understaffed and supplies are not
consistently kept in stock
Building was downsized to a finance center
and manager is no longer on site, while also
unresponsive
Possible steps: petitions, meetings with the
manager
