THE GLORIOUS REVOLUTION


Ultimately established the
supremacy of parliament over the
British monarchy.

FEAR OF CATHOLIC TYRANNY


1688-1689: James II was replaced
by his daughter Mary and her
Dutch husband William.
1688: England was being invaded
another European power, the
other Dutch republican.

REBELLION AND REVOLT


1685: James II appeared to be
secure when he succeeded to the
throne
June 1685: Parliament voted
James to suppress the rebellion
raised by Charles IIs illegitimate
son.

DUTCH INVASION
Part of Holy Roman Empire, which
is a loose confederacy including
Germany, Bohemia (the Czech
Republic), part of Austria, Sidle,
parts of Northern Italy.
South (Flanders and Brabant) is
urbanized center to textile
processing; linked to Hansa in
Baltic, England, and Tuscany.
North is a frontier, being reclaimed
by windmills and dikes.

REVOLUTION
European nations were competing
with each other for:
- World resources
- Military strength
- Political superiority
Some nations were upsetting the
balance of power

CONSEQUENCES
The industrial increased
production lowered the cost of
good and les to new technologies.
But the industrial revolution had
negative impacts as well.
