TEJB9877 Cat 6015B vs. Cat 5110B

April 2016

Introduction

The newly released 6015B replaced the 6015 in backhoe configuration. The 6015 FS will be available
for a transition period.
The design concept of the new 6015B is completely different from the 6015 and is based on the 5110B,
which was the most successful machine of the Cat Mining hydraulic shovel line up until the mining
shovel product range was discontinued.
The 5110B has been sold in the regular production times with an average of about 23 units, before
it was discontinued in 2004. Since 2004 many Cat dealers compensated the gap in the CatMining
product line with the sales of 6015/6015 FS (RH40) which has seen about 10deliveries on average
inrecent years.
Based on the great success and reputation of the 5110B, we expect the 6015B to become a leading
player in the 100 mt hydraulic excavator class.
This bulletin therefore compares the 6015B machine specifications and new features versus the 5110B.
Due to the completely different design of the 6015B versus the 6015/6015 FS and the fact that the
6015in backhoe configuration is discontinued, a comparison table of the physical parameters of the
6015 versus the 6015B, the 5110B and other 100 mt class competitor machines is attached at the end
ofthis report.

Load Enhanced Anticipatory Control (LEAC)

LEAC is proprietary Cat software that estimates
fuel requirements, based on engine speed and
torque, and needed torque, based on engine
speed and hydraulic load (pumps and fan).
Thistechnology ensures faster and more
consistent engine regulation by preventing lug,
which, in turn, reduces fuel consumption.
Engine Torque Load Control (ETLC)
ETLC is proprietary Cat software that reduces
hydraulic pump output to prevent engine lug,
based on available engine torque, desired engine
speed, actual engine speed, and estimated hydraulic
load. This technology provides power to the machine
functions that need it to move material quickly
and efficiently.

TEJB9877 Cat 6015B vs. Cat 5110B

April 2016

Feature Comparison
Cat 6015B Hydraulic System
The significantly more advanced hydraulic system ensures faster cycle times and delivers increased
hydraulic efficiency.
Electro-Hydraulic Controls. The proportional valves and the pumps are now controlled electronically
instead of hydraulically. This new feature eliminates the need for hydraulic pilot lines as used by the
5110B in the cabin, reducing noise and heat while eliminating the risk of hose failures. The faster response
times result in improved machine performance and more efficient engine, pump and valve control.
Implement Pumps. Three main pumps deliver a maximum 1544 L/min (407 gal/min), an increase
of15.4%. As a result, machine movements are faster, ensuring superior times.
On the 5110B three main pumps generate a maximum oil flow of 1337 L/min (353 gal/min).
The relief valve settings are unchanged:
Implement circuit: 320 bar (4,640 psi)
Travel circuit: 350 bar (5,075 psi)
Swing circuit: 350 bar (5,080 psi)
New Electronically Controlled Boom Regeneration Valve. Leveraged from the LWL group, the
regeneration valve diverts oil from the piston to rod side. This improves hydraulic efficiency because
the pump is not required to lower the boom, while also potentially increasing pump lifetime.
Cylinders. New seals and an enhanced piston design serve to increase cylinder lifetime. In addition, all
cylinders feature snubbers, thus reducing end of stroke shocks to further extend cylinder lifetime and
ensure superior operator comfort.
Swing System. Change from an open loop to a closed-loop system with hydrostatic speed control that
requires less hoses and eliminates the need for a relief valve during deceleration. Therefore, heat load
is reduced, which in turn contributes to increased component lifetime. In addition, increased hydraulic
efficiency reduces fuel consumption.
With 498 L/min (132 gal/min), the swing pump on the 6015B delivers 7.5% more oil flow compared to
the dedicated open loop swing pump on the 5110B. As a result the maximum swing speed is increased
from 4.6 rpm to 4.9 rpm.
Hydraulic System Filtration. The oil quality on the 6015B will benefit from a kidney loop filtration
with 6m oil filter. Additionally, the two return filters have changed from 35 micron to 20micron,
thusimproved filtration will benefit component lifetimes.

Cat 6015B Undercarriage
Track Links and Shoes. Leveraging proven Cat components, the 6015B uses D11 Track-Type Tractor
links instead of D10 size links as on the 5110B and modified shoes from the 5130 Hydraulic Excavator.
With significantly less travel time compared to the D11 and significantly less machine operating weight
compared to the 5130, the reliability and durability of these components is outstanding on the 6015B.
The extra weight that comes with the undercarriage gives the 6015B great stability resulting in operator
comfort and improved structural component lifetime.
The standard track width is unchanged at 700 mm (28 in) and suited to hard rock applications.
Forsoft underground conditions that require increased flotation, wider 900 mm (36 in) and 1000 mm
(39 in) shoes are available.
The retarder valves are now integrated in the travel motors, which reduces the number of hoses and
thesystem complexity.

6015B Boom and Stick Options

Initially available as a backhoe in Mass Excavation (ME) configuration, boom and stick lengths are
unchanged from the 5110B. Therefore, boom length is 7.6m (24.9 ft) and stick either 3.4 m (11.2 ft)
or4.1 m (13.5 ft).
GP and front shovel version are not available at current stage.
