Hi everyone,

Well here we are finally getting a bit of a newsletter/ progress report together for your information.
It has been great thus far to see the level of participation at the music workshops which are held every
Friday afternoon from 4:30pm ± 6pm at the Flowerdale Community Hall . The workshops began on Jan 23 rd
this year as part of the State -wide Youth and Music Pro ject for bushfire affected communities run by The
Salvation Army and sponsored by The Sony Fou ndation.
The workshops have seen an average of 13 youth per week attending guitar tuition, keyboard tuition, drum
tuition, song writing and vocal coaching and performance.
Three weeks ago the YaMP project - Flowerdale received some music and recording equip ment which the
youth will have access too for the purpose of continuing the project which aims to have them form bands,
write and record their own songs and to perform for the community.
The YaMp team has already expressed a desire to put on a community c oncert and will begin to prepare
for that in the next term. Dates wi ll be set and advertised accordingly.

We have been thrilled at the participation and enthusiasm of the youth that attend every week and to watch
everyone learn and develop new skills , not only in music but also build ing and developing relational skills,
developing team building skills and taking on new responsibilities is a reward unto itself. To have parents
assisting in the weekly workshops has also been greatly appreciated as well as en couraging for all
involved.
I would like to make mention of two people without whom this project would not have happened nor
continued - Vicky Parry and John Leary . Their dedication to the Flower dale community is evidenced every
week by their availability and willingness to support the youth and the music project with enthusiasm and to
serve the community by providing a much needed and appreciated the youth service. Thank you.
