Facilities Management Report

June and July 2010

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library


• New signage for the 4th floor has been completed. Facilities will add
additional signage in October.
• Painters have completed the parking garage lobby and hallways in white
to brighten the area.
• Staff has completed the annual stripping and finishing of the Great Hall.
• A leak in the condensate line of the new A/C unit for the second floor has
been repaired.
• GSA is working to complete the installation of condensation return pumps
at the Library.
• Repairs have been completed to the relief dampers in the garage to keep
fresh air flowing through the area.
• Light ballast replacement was completed in Black Studies. Replacement
lights are energy efficient.
• DCPL’s water treatment contractor has installed a new chemical bleed
valve on our cooling tower and water lines.
• All preventive maintenance was completed for the month of June as
scheduled.

Neighborhood Libraries
• The air conditioning unit at Shepherd Park has been repaired.
• Lighting replacements were completed on the first and second floors at
Chevy Chase.
• Closing has been completed at the old Francis Gregory Library and all
equipment, supplies and materials removed.
• Painters and a private contractor have completed repairs and painting at
Lamond Riggs.
• DCPL’s locksmith/carpenter is working to install locks throughout the new
Benning Neighborhood Library.

Miscellaneous Items
• Energy Stimulus funding has been received and requisitions have been
forwarded to procurement to begin the procurement process. The
information will be posted on DCPL’s web site.
• DCPL is participating in the Way-To-Work Initiative funded by DOES.
Three participants are working with our staff on landscaping at the
Neighborhood Libraries. When the weather prevents them from working
outside, they assist facilities in other duties around the system.
• Facilities assisted Collections and Neighborhood Libraries in transporting
new books and materials to the newly opened Deanwood Neighborhood
Library.
