LIONS-EASB SCHOLARSHIP PROJECT

1. What is the LIONS-EASB Scholarships project?


Answer: The Lions-EASB Scholarship project is a collaborative effort championed by the
Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North and East Asia Institute of
Management (EASB), Singapore.

2. Who are the Lions?


Answer: Lions Clubs International is the world's largest volunteer service organization
with over 46,000 clubs in 202 countries. Since 1917, Lions Clubs have offered
people the opportunity to give something back to their communities. From
involving members in projects as local as cleaning up an area park or as far-
reaching as bringing sight to the world's blind, Lions clubs have always
embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community.

3. Who is EASB?
Answer: EASB, registered with the Ministry of Education, Singapore in 2001, is recognised
by the industry as a premier institution offering a wide range of undergraduate
and postgraduate degrees from reputable UK and Australian universities. You

4. What Scholarships are available?


Answer: EASB has partnered with the Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh and the University of
Wales Institute, Cardiff to establish respectively, the QMU Asia campus and the UWIC Asia
campus in Singapore. To commemorate this significant development and distinction of
QMU and UWIC being the 1st and 2nd UK Universities to establish their Asia campuses in
Singapore, EASB is launching an Asia Scholarship Fund. This US$20 million (RM70 million)
initiative will eventually enroll 1,500 undergraduate students from across Asia to study in the
QMU Asia and UWIC Asia campuses in Singapore.

5. How many Scholarships are available for Malaysia?


Answer: 300 Scholarships worth more than RM$14 Million are available for qualified
Malaysians to study in Singapore.

6. What degrees are covered under this project?


Answer: The following degrees are available under this scheme

Answer: Cardiff’s Metropolitan University / University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC)
was granted the Government’s Charter Mark for Excellence in Public Service in
1995, 1998, 2001, 2005 and 2007, a unique achievement in UK Higher

8. May I know more about Queen Margaret University?


Answer: Since its inception in 1875, Queen Margaret University has made a crucial and
distinctive contribution to the country's tertiary and higher education, by

focusing its expertise on issues of pressing social need and by engaging directly
with the community, while also demonstrating its agility in adapting to the
rapidly changing agenda for research-led higher education. For more

9. What are the Entry Requirements to qualify


Answer: 1) Malaysian citizen who is generally healthy and physically fit.
2) STPM or A-Level with minimum A, B, B grades plus credit in General
Paper/Pengajian Am (Bahasa Malaysia).
3) Active in co-curriculum activities, sports or clubs and societies (leadership
qualities, exemplary conduct and social responsibility).
4) SPM with aggregate of maximum of 12 and below from 5 best subjects,
inclusive of a strong “O” level grade of C4 in English (1119) and C5 in
Mathematics.

10. What if I currently only have SPM or UEC qualification?


Answer: This scholarship program is for 3 years, therefore if by the time the students
finishes STPM or A levels, they may apply if they have the required grades.

11. What is the Value of the Scholarship?


Answer: Each scholarship is valued at 70% of the Course Fees. As such, successful Lions-
EASB Scholarship holders will be required to finance the remaining 30%.

12. How much are the Course Fees?


Answer: Please check with EASB for the latest information. According to
www.easb.edu.sg as at February 2009, the current course and exam fees are as
follows:

13. Besides the above Course Fees, are there any other Fees payable?
Answer: Students will need to pay the one time application fees (S$321), administration
fees (S$321) and insurance fees (S$321) for the duration of the course.

14. How much is the estimated Living expenses in Singapore?


Answer: The hostel charges is between S$300 to S$500 per month, while Food &
transportation is about S$300 per month. Therefore estimated is. A budget of
about S$600 to S$800 per month (S$7,200 - S$ 9,600 per year or S$21,600 to
S$28,800 for 3 years) should be sufficient to cover food, accommodations and
some miscellaneous expenses.

15. Are there hostel or accommodations available On-Campus?


Answer: EASB offers various hostel options, such as our own private apartment and our
own 2 condominium apartment blocks hostel facility that is within 5minutes
walking distance to QMU Asia Campus. Students are also free to source for their
own accommodations.

16. Can students choose to stay in JB and commute into Singapore for classes?
Answer: YES, this option is available but students will have to find their own way.
Currently many Johorean students are doing this.

17. Am I eligible to apply for Permanent Residence (PR) Status with Singapore
Answer: YES. Once student graduate and have started working in Singapore under S-
pass for a minimum of 6 months, students are eligible to apply for PR. Note
that the student will need to comply with other prevailing requirements as
stipulated by the government of Singapore.

Committee Board North, will make the final selection of scholarship winners.
