9 (a). Diagram 9.1 shows one of the environment
phenomena which has become a current topic of
discussion.
Name this phenomenon and explain how it
happen

Greenhouse effect
Sunlight enters the earth at atmosphere.
Some solar radiation is reflected back to space.
Most of the radiation is absorbed by the earth.
This warms the surfaces of the sea and land.
As the earth is warmed, heat in the form of
infrared radiation is radiated back into space.
However, much of this heat does not escape
from the atmosphere but remains trapped by
greenhouse gasses warming the atmosphere.
At the same time the greenhouse gases cause
the infra red rays to be radiated back towards
the surface of the earth
If you are an environmental activist suggest
how would you explain to society about the
steps needed to overcome the phenomena
• Reduce the burning fossil fuels to conserve
energy
• Develop alternative sources of energy such as
wind,solar and geotherma energy
• Reduce deforestation for farming
• Replant trees which is cut down
