that time, there were 70 players
who played in "Invitationals" that
were not open to qualifiers.
Nothing has really changed with
the exception that Invitationals
restricted to the "good ol' boys"
are non-league, and it is an awe-
some sight to see that some of my
club professional friends have
slipped through the restrictions
that dictate this closed group of
professionals. If anyone can logi-
cally explain why a Senior Tour
field is limited to 78 players and
the PGA Tour is 144, I welcome
an answer.
Unfortunately, the Senior Tour is
tying it's own noose, ratings are
falling, ESPN has dropped TV
coverage and the same old faces
that you used to see (Chi-Chi,
Irwin, Nicklaus) will be replaced
by a minority few (Watson, Kite,
Nelson, Fleisher) due to the non-
competitive size of the field.
My former roommates, John
Jacobs and Gary McCord are wel-
come additions to a small group
that is in need of new blood.
Playing the Senior Tour with the
Palmer, Nicklaus and players of
my era, was a lifetime dream.
Being exempt for three years
under the constrictions of the Tour
was another milestone. I only
hope that the senior power struc-
ture relaxes the restrictions to

allow a larger competitive field,
which would be in the best interest
of everyone.

All-Americans and now mini-tour
players Byron Schlagenhauf and
Dan Arroyo are playing the Zero
Tour in California and will be
qualifying for the Canadian Tour
this month. Thanks and kudos to
Mike Stead who sponsors both
Dan and Byron on their dreams to
follow the PGA Tour. (Anyone

Jason Boldt is the Director of Golf
at the Vintners Golf Club in
Yountville. Jeff Cassidy is the
Head Professional. The course is
a pristine nine-hole layout with the
best greens and conditions of any
course in Northern California.
You can play 18 holes (with 2 sets
of tees) that will measure approxi-
mately 3,000 yards when we finish
adding our new teeing areas. The
