The document discusses exploration drilling in the Krishna Godavari Basin in India. The basin covers over 50,000 square kilometers in Andhra Pradesh and is known for major natural gas discoveries. One challenge is drilling deep wells in the high pressure, high temperature environment present. A holistic approach was employed, involving mechanical earth modeling and quality management of contracting partners, to successfully drill the deepest offshore well in the basin to date while minimizing environmental impact.

HP/HT Exploration Drilling In The Krishna Godavari Basin,
India
SPE/IADC 102018 Vidya sagar
Bokka 20413901 Krishna Godavari Basin(KG) Krishna-Godavari basin is a Peri- cartonic basin in India.
It is spread across more than 50,000 sq
km’s in Coastal Area Andhra Pradesh, India.
The site is known for the D-6 block where
Reliance Industries discovered the biggest natural gas reserves in India in 2002. It was also the world's largest gas discovery of 2002.
GSPC has made the India's one of largest
gas finds in the KG Basin that’s 20 trillion cubic feet of gas in June 2005.
GSPC has also exploration activities in
Egypt, Yemen, Indonesia and Australia. Outline Holistic approach to drilling engineering employed to design and drill the deepest offshore well in India. Well construction methodology in conjunction with contracting strategy and service quality management process. Mechanical earth model developed to improve the drilling performance in this area. Highlights the data acquisition challenges in the HTHP environment(4100F BHST and 12,000psi BHP. Introduction PASARLAPUDI BLOW OUT Drilling deep wells in the KG basin has been very challenging in the past.
The complex faulted nature of the
intersected formations, stuck pipe, loss of circulation, HPHT environment and presence of overpressure zones attributed to the problem.
KG block is close to wild life sanctuary
along the coastal areas; thus drilling has to be conducted in such a manner as to minimize the impact on the environment and discharge of chemical wastes. Quality Management and Contracting Strategy
The KG asset activity has been divided into 3
core areas, i.e., Geo science, Engineering and supply chain system.
