Using Vonage with Brother MFC 8640-D Unit (FAXING)

I have had success faxing using Vonage with the Brother MFC 8640D. But it wasn't easy.

First I set the Vonage Bandwidth Saver Mode to highest (90k).

Then, on the Brother MFC-8640D:

1) With the unit on, press Menu, *, 2, 8, 6, 4

You have to press the above buttons very quickly in succession. If you do it right, the machine will
enter “Maintenance Mode”.

2) Enter 10 (one, zero) WSW00 will appear on the LCD.

3) Change the 00 to 19

4) You'll now see a n 8 digit string of 1's and 0's. Make the first 3 say 011 (Enter 011) [instead of the
default which is 111]. This sets it to 9600 baud. If that still doesn't work later when you try it, later on
you can repeat the above steps but try 001 (4800 baud) or 000 (2400 baud) instead.

5) Press the “Set” button.

6) Press “Stop”

7) Enter 99

Go try FAXing again. If it still doesn't work, go repeat the above but make the changes in step 4 to try
different options.

If it still doesn't work, check the ECM settings as follows:

1) With the unit on, press Menu, *, 2, 8, 6, 4

You have to press the above buttons very quickly in succession. If you do it right, the machine will
enter “Maintenance Mode”.

2) Enter 10 (one, zero) WSW00 will appear on the LCD.

3) Change the 00 to 22

4) You'll now see a n 8 digit string of 1's and 0's. If ECM is enabled (the default), the first 2 digits will
be 00. If disabled, they will be 11. I had trouble with ECM disabled so I recommend making sure it is
enabled (change the first 2 digits to 00 if they're not already). Or you can try disabling it by changing
the first 2 digits to 11 if it hasn't worked with ECM enabled.

5) Press the “Set” button.

6) Press “Stop”
7) Enter 99

Now go try FAXing again. Hopefully you have found success now...
