Fixed and floating caliper disc brakes:

Introduction to disc brakes.

Disc break is a device used for slowing or stopping the rotation off
the wheel.it is generally made of steel and is rigidly connected to
wheel. To stop the rotation of wheel, breaking pads are forced
mechanically and hydraulically against the disc in both sides.
Friction causes the disc and wheel to slow or stop.In a disc-braking
system the cars wheels are attached to metal discs, or rotors, that spin along with
the wheels. The job of the callipers is to slow the car's wheels by creating friction
with the rotors.

Caliper.

it is a hydraulic piston assembly that holds the break pads..

there are two types of calipers used generally..

1.fixed capilary.

as it is evident from the name these calipers are fixed and do not
move.they have pistons arranged on opposing sides of rotor.they
are preferred for their performance.

2.floating caliper.

they move in and out relative to the rotor and have one or two
pistons on inside of he board.
