Forward Bias
• The d.c. voltage required to maintain
current flow
• a silicon diode will conduct current only if
its anode is at a positive voltage compared
to its cathode
• This voltage will be approximately 0.7
volts for silicon diode.
• This voltage will be approximately 0.3
volts for germanium diode

Reverse Bias
• anode is at a negative voltage and
cathode is positive voltage.
• No current flow.
• High Resistance equivalent
• This voltage will be 0 volts.
