Executive MBA (E-MBA) is a two-year intensive Location

program specially designed for working professionals

Selection Process
The selection is through an entrance test,
personal interview and the profile of the
candidate. Eligible candidates can write the test
at the respective centres. The Program
Coordinator at the respective centre will
provide information on the procedure and
schedule for writing the entrance test and
attending the personal interview. Please refer to
www.executiveprograms.manipal.edu for the
pattern of the entrance test.
The candidates will be informed about their
selection within 10 days of attending the
personal interview. The selection will be based
on the consolidated score obtained in the
entrance test, personal interview and individual
profile (academic background and work experience).

The selected/shortlisted candidates can confirm

Guidelines for Selecting
Specialization for E-MBA Program
Selected candidates need to specify the area of
specialization at the time of joining the course.
The specified specialization will be offered only if
a minimum number of students opt for the
same. In case the required numbers don’t enroll
for a particular specialization the same will not
be offered. However, such students, if
interested, have the option of choosing another
specialization, which is being offered.
After the successful completion of E-MBA, a
student can opt for another specialization by
joining directly in the second year of E-MBA
course. In such event, he/she is eligible only for
PG Diploma certification in the additional stream
of specialization after successful completion of
the second year.
Program Structure
The program is designed with extremely
stringent evaluation mechanisms at various
intervals to ensure that it helps in building the
student's confidence in terms of knowledge,
skills and attitude which in-turn develops
him/her into an effective leader.
Faculty
Professionally competent and experts in understanding
the student psyche, the faculty in all our institutes
form the bulwark of Manipal. The university has a
large pool of faculty members in various functional
areas such as Finance, Marketing, HR and IT. We
believe in having a good blend of theory & practice

Reference Material / Books
One reference book for each subject will be
given to each student. The reference book may
not cover the complete syllabus in all cases, so
it is highly recommended and advisable that
students refer to additional books and journals to
enhance their hold on individual subject.

Handout which spells out the plan of study and
evaluation scheme, prescribed text books or
suggested reference books apart from other
details will be given to the students. The evaluation
schedule is also announced in the beginning of the
semester itself. All details pertaining to the operation
of the program including grading procedures are
shared with the students through this document.
Attendance requirement
Attendance for the lectures is a critical part of
course implementation. Students need to maintain
a minimum of 75% attendance in each subject
to be eligible for appearing for the end semester
university exams. However, in special circumstances,
student may be permitted to take the examination
even if he / she has less than 75% attendance
(but not less than 60% in individual subjects)
only if he / she produces a letter from the
concerned authority supporting the genuineness
of the cause for absence.

Evaluation Methodology
The letter grading system (Credit Based) will be
adopted to evaluate the performance of the
students. The evaluation is done on the basis
of internal assessment and end semester
examinations.
Outline of Evaluation
The student performance in each subject is
evaluated out of a maximum of 100 marks,
of which 50% is for in-semester assessment
and 50% for the end semester examintions.
However a candidate must score a
minimum of 35%marks in the end semester
exam to be eligible for passing grades.
In-semester assessment will be based on
continuous evaluation, the factors of which
will include attendance, assignments, case
presentations and class tests.
The overall performance of a student in
different subjects is expressed in terms of a
Letter Grade.
Both internal assessment and the University
viva-voce examination marks will be considered
for awarding the grade.
Continuous Internal Evaluation
Manipal University follows continuous system of
internal evaluations to monitor / improve the
performance of students. Internal evaluation
shall be based on assignment / test / examinations
and seminars conducted in respective subjects
total weight age for the same will be 50%. (There
will be two internal tests in each subject and one
assignment)

Project Work
The students need to undertake a two months
duration project work in their organization or on
their own, in the chosen area of specialization.
The score assigned to the Project Report,
Presentation and Viva-Voce is considered in the
final calculation of marks and declaration of
result. Project work evaluation will follow the
fixed grading system.
Examination
The examinations are conceived, developed
and administered on a rigorous and fair basis to
bring out the best in the students and prepare
them for challenging careers in the world of
management. The examination for the program
is conducted at the end of each semester. A
student will be promoted to the higher semester
irrespective of the number of subjects he/she
has passed.
Credit Based System/ Letter Grades
The educational process uses credit based
system.
The program content of individual subject is
expressed in terms of certain number of
credits. The number of credits assigned to a
subject depends on the number of contact
hours.
The program content of each semester is
expressed in terms of a specified number of
total credits. A student is deemed to have
successfully completed a particular semes
ter's program of study when he/she earns
all the credits of that semester, i.e., he / she
has no F grade in any subject of that semester.

The number of credits attached to a program
will be multiplied by the grade value (i.e. points)
to arrive at the grade points secured by a
student in that subject. The total of the grade
points divided by the total credits gives GPA per
semester. At the end of the program, CGPA is
arrived at by the weighted average of the GPAs
of the four semesters. A student who has
secured F grade in one or more subjects,
irrespective of the reason, has to take a
supplementary examination in each of such subjects.
Evaluation of Project Work
The evaluation of the project work will be based
on the quality of the report and student's
performance in a viva-voce & presentation,
divided as 50% for project report and the rest
50% for viva-voce & presentation. The viva-voce
will be conducted by external examiners.
Guidelines for break during the
program
Short-term Break: If required, a candidate can
take a break of upto two months during the
semester (theory classes). In such a case if the

minimum attendance per subject is 60% and
the average attendance in the semester is 75%
the candidate will be allowed to take the exam.
Students who take break due to official assignment
can avail certain exemption in attendance by
producing a written document/letter from the
company. In such cases the minimum attendance
required per subject cannot be less than 60%
and the average attendance in the semester has
to be 60%. If the above criteria is not met the
candidate can take exams only for those
subjects with attendance of 75% and above.
However, if the candidate is keen on attending
lectures for the subject missed during the break,
he/she can join the lectures in the next available
batch and appear for the exam.
Long-term Break
If required, a candidate can take a long term
break spanning upto one year (first year of
study). However, such break will be allowed only
for official reasons such as deputation on project
abroad or at other locations.
Note
A candidate is eligible to take short / long-term
breaks provided we have a batch to offer.
Validity of Enrollment
The maximum validity period for the E-MBA
program is 4 years from the date of commencement
of the program. Students are required to complete
the program within this period of four years.
Students who are unable to complete the
program within the validity period, but still keen on
continuing the program, are required to register as
fresh candidate by paying the requisite fee.
