1. Introduction of the Council Members.

2. Guest Speakers:
 Tiffany Hutchings with the Sustainability Council spoke about the various things the
council is involved in. They are always looking for new members and encourage
everyone to join or come to a meeting. The meetings are open to the public and you do
not need to be a member to attend. They are typically the second Tuesday of each month,
but can vary sometimes, and the meeting times/locations can be found on their website at
www.du.ed/green. You can also serve on a committee without joining the council if you
are interested on working on specific initiatives. All committees are listed on their
website. The Rocky Mountain Sustainability Summit will be held at DU in February,
2011. There is also a listserv you can sign up for. There was some discussion over paper
flyers and the push to reduce them has not gone very far. Recycle bins will be placed
outside around campus in the coming months. For further information on the council
please visit their website.
 Dan Wesolowski, Director of Ticket Sales, spoke about the upcoming Faculty, Staff and
Retiree appreciation week. Tuesday, 11/16 at 7pm the DU women’s basketball team will
host CU here and Thursday, 11/18 at 7pm the DU men’s basketball team will host CSU
here. On Thursday there will be a reception from 6 to 7 with food, drinks and prizes.
Athletics offers great benefits to DU employees; including discounts on season tickets
and the availability of the Ritchie Center for retreats and team-building activities and they
can provide catering.

3. Announcements:
 Departmental announcements:
o Kelly Raeburn will be participating in Daffodil Days through the American
Cancer Society (February or March timeframe). For $10 a bouquet of daffodils
will be delivered to a cancer patient. Please contact Kelly for further information.
o Advancement has raised $250 million so far in the Ascend campaign.
o Athletics will be holding a press conference today at 3:30 in Magness Arena to
announce the new athletic conference affiliation.

4. October minutes were approved with one change. David Rivera is the new Custodial Director,
not the Facilities Director.

5. New Business
 Email ideas to Nicky for Faculty Senate/SAC get together.
 The Chancellor will be joining us for the December meeting. Please send your
anonymous questions to Nicky by Monday, 12/6. Lunch will be provided. Send any
special dietary needs to Nicky.
 The coat drive planning will start in the next few weeks. The coat drive is in January.
 Open discussion:
o There are only 11 holidays this year. No floating holiday was given for New
Year’s Day. The Chancellor and HR have already been approached about this.
o The question was asked if anything is being done about the staff morale issue.
Nicky explained that Craig Woody asked SAC to hold off on the proposed staff
morale survey until the new HR employee relations person is in place.
o The question was asked why there is so much time between when merit is due and
when the raise actually takes place. It was explained that merit is due in stages so
that it doesn’t all come in at once, so this may be one reason why it seems as if
there is a long time between the two for some units. It was also explained that we
are paid a month behind so it does not show up until February paychecks and that
is another reason for the delay.
o The question was asked about where things stand with smaller units not being
represented on SAC. Nicky explained that SAC was also asked to hold off on this
until the new HR employee relations person is in place.

6. Old business
 Nicky will work with Amy King in HR to get SAC a copy of the salary range
comparisons and how DU’s salaries compare to similar schools and cities.

Meeting adjourned.

Next meeting: December 8, 2010, 12 – 1 pm, DuPont Room, Mary Reed Building.

Respectfully submitted,

Christa Bruning
Secretary
