Aquino ally hot

For Cha-cha

Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone said that he will

propose the election of Co-Con delegates in May or
June 2011.
According to Evardone, Con-Con is more
acceptable to the law makers and a more practical
way of amending the 1987 Constitution.
“This is the best time and opportunity to amend
the Constitution because the people will not suspect that
the effort is intended to prolong the term of the Pres-
ident and other officials,” Evardone said.
WHILE the House leadership is having second thoughts about Charter
change, an ally of President Benigno Aquino III is set to file a He added that the President’s statement that he
Constitutional Convention bill next week. will not seek any government post after his
presidency, is a good signal to start the debate on
Cha-cha.
Critics of Cha-cha had claimed its proponents were out to extend the term of the incumbent elected officials.
“If we push for it near the end of the term of P-noy, people will suspect again. That will doom Charter
change,” he added.
But another ally of Aquino said that Cha-cha is still a very dangerous proposal.
