Abstract:
A sewing machine having a device feed dog is disposed in a drive arrangement with a rotating
main shaft. A lift eccentric provides the feed device with the lift movement by means of an
auxiliary carrier and a feed drive provides the feed dog with the feed movement. The device
can alternatively be formed as a differential feed device
Its primary function is to know the position of the needle in relation to the degree of wheel.

Introduction:
The crankshaft, sometimes casually abbreviated to crank, is the part of an engine which
translates reciprocating linear piston motion into rotation. To convert the reciprocating motion
into rotation, the crankshaft has "crank throws" or "crankpins", additional bearing surfaces
whose axis is offset from that of the crank, to which the "big ends" of the connecting rods from
each cylinder attach

Procedure:
 Timing dial is attached to the crankshaft. The dial is adjusted at zero degree when the
needle bar is at top most position.
 Mark appoint on needle bar as a reference.
 The distance b/w the reference point and m/c bed is noted.
 Wheel is rotated manually through the desire amount of degree
 The movement of the needle bar after every fixed interval is noted. This is repeated for
the one complete cycle.
 Similarly the degree is noted when the feed dogs start moving and stop.

Observation and calculations:

Q: Crankshaft provides drive to which part of sewing machine?

A: They provide the drive to the rocker and feed dog plate.
Q: purpose of two rods in sewing machine?
A: A crank is an arm attached at right angles to a rotating shaft by which reciprocating motion is
imparted to or received from the shaft. It is used to change circular into reciprocating motion,
or reciprocating into circular motion. The arm may be a bent portion of the shaft, or a separate
arm attached to it. Attached to the end of the crank by a pivot is a rod, usually called a
connecting rod. The end of the rod attached to the crank moves in a circular motion, while the
other end is usually constrained to move in a linear sliding motion, in and out.
Q: is it possible to replace the crank mechanism by another mechanism for same kind of
operation?
A: in my point of view this is not possible.
