Director of Public Relations

Responsibility: The Director of Public Relations shall create and maintain a positive image of
ASWSUV to students, faculty, administration, and the community. The Director
of Public Relations will communicate with the PR Assistant to creatively and
innovatively publicize ASWSUV events, programs, and activities in various
media forms. The Director of Public Relations will also communicate with the
Public Relations Assistant to ensure the ASWSUV website effectively represents
the organization.

Duties: The Director of Public Relations shall have and exercise the following powers and
duties:

A. Perform duties in accordance with the ASWSUV Constitution and By-laws


B. Creatively publicize upcoming campaigns and promotions in mediums such as, but not
limited to:
1. Flyers and handbills
2. A-Frames
3. Social media networks
4. ASWSUV email list
5. ASWSUV Newsletter
6. VanCougar and KOUG Radio announcements
7. Cafeteria calendar updates
8. Tabling
C. Communicate and manage itemized expenditures of the Public Relations budget with the
ASWSUV President
D. Expand, manage, and frequently utilize the ASWSUV student email list to provide project
and event updates
E. Produce an ASWSUV quarterly newsletter including, but not limited to:
1. Past project and event updates
2. Upcoming projects and events
3. Featured ASWSUV member
F. Distribute ASWSUV newsletter via ASWSUV email list, the VanCougar, ASWSUV
website, and other print options
G. Provide to KOUG Radio weekly “sweepers” to advertise ASWSUV projects and events
H. Frequently update the ASWSUV calendar located in the cafeteria
I. Negotiate contract with the VanCougar for ASWSUV and RSO advertisements before the
first issue
J. Provide bi-monthly press releases to the VanCougar and other media sources
K. Coordinate bi-monthly tabling efforts with the Senate and Executive Team.
L. Communicate with Senate Secretary to publicize resolutions, committee events, programs,
and other Senate related items
M. Help maintain and increase ASWSUV presence through online networking
N. Work with Public Relations Assistant to ensure ASWSUV’s website suitably reflects the
organization
O. Assist the Director of Legislative Affairs in publicizing current legislative interests
P. Assist the Director of Leadership Development in advertising leadership conferences
Q. Assist the Director of Academic Affairs in publicizing current academic interests
R. Provide an oral and written report on at each Senate meeting
S. Attend as many ASWSUV sponsored events as possible
T. Attend all mandatory ASWSUV meetings including, but not limited to:
1. Retreats
2. Executive Team meetings
3. All Student Government meetings
U. Perform any duties deemed necessary by the ASWSUV President
Requirements: The Director of Public Relations must be member of ASWSUV and be enrolled in
at least six (6) credits per semester during the regular academic year. S/he must
be in good academic standing, maintaining no less than a 2.0 GPA.

Work Conditions: Frequent interruptions, some noise, fast-paced

Term: The Director of Public Relations shall hold office from commencement to
commencement or until his/her duly elected successor takes office.
Salary: In accordance with ASWSUV By-Law (330.02), the salary for the Public
Relations Director will be fifty percent (50%) of the President’s salary, thus eight
thousand dollars ($8000) for the entire year.

Hours: The Director of Public Relations shall contribute at least fifteen (15) posted office
hours each week to his/her duties until commencement as well as attend weekly
Monday 12:00 meeting. Posted office hours must be held between the hours of
8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Workloads may require additional hours.
