Physical Education Grading Policy

Saranac High School

P.E. grades will be calculated according to the following categories:


- 25% = Participation
- 25% = Conditioning (Warm-up & Stretching)
- 25% = Unit Test (2 per quarter)
- 25% = Physical Fitness Component

Participation & Conditioning:


- At the beginning of each quarter, students begin with a 100.
- Each class period is worth 10 points.

Loss of Points:
- Not changing and/or being prepared for class
- Not ACTIVELY participating
- Not demonstrating good sportsmanship and/or acceptance of classmates.
- Absent for more than 2 class periods in a 10 week marking period (legal class
absences can be made up).
- If students are not able to fully participate due to medical reasons, written
work will be assigned to fulfill the class requirements.

Unit Tests:
- There will be 2 unit tests each quarter. Each test will consist of 25 multiple
choice questions. There will be a verbal and written review given the class
period before the test day. Also, all review sheets will be posted on Edline.

Physical Fitness Component:


- Standard Physical Fitness Testing (1st & 3rd quarters)
 Sit-ups
 Push-ups
 Shuttle Run
 Sit & Reach
 Mile
- Skills/Fitness Evaluation (2nd & 4th quarters)
 Jump Rope
 40 yard dash
 Dot Drill
 Vertical Jump

Physical education is a state mandated course for a full year. Students may only have 15
absences in the entire year. An absence is anytime a student is not in class for 30
minutes.

There is no day off, or free day in P.E.
