Does Curfew affect Teen Crime?

By: Danielle Humphrey & Deja Cook

I believe that the curfew of teens directly affects Teen Crime. By keeping young people off the

streets at night, it will protect teens from becoming victims of crime or committing crimes

themselves. It will help to better protect citizens after hours from being in danger. Setting

Curfews will keep teens out of trouble and will keep them away from explicit activities that

happen most prevalently at night.

Parents have many motivations for imposing curfews on teenagers. The main reason is

probably because they care for the safety of their teen and want them to be in good care.

Parents have a responsibility to their children both morally and legally to keep them safe and

monitor their activities. It’s also a matter of social courtesy to know what their teen is out doing

and when to expect them to be home.

However, because some parents can be too busy to monitor their teens or just simply

irresponsible, curfews must be in place to ensure the safety of the public and themselves. If

teenagers were safely in their homes by a certain hour, it would decrease teen crime

tremendously.
