1 (a) The three sets P, Q and R are such that P ∩ R = ∅ , n( P ∩ Q) > 0 and. R ⊂ Q
Draw a clearly labelled Venn diagram to illustrate the three sets P, Q and R. [2]
(b) Of the 40 students surveyed, 28 play soccer and 15 play tennis. It is given that
ξ = {students surveyed}
S = {students who play soccer}, T = { students who play tennis }.
(i) Express in set notation: {students who neither play soccer or tennis} [1]
(ii) With the aid of a Venn diagram, find the greatest possible value of n(S ∩ T ') [2]
3 (a) A rectangle has length of (5 – 4x) m and breath of x m. Calculate the range of values of x
for which the area of the rectangle is at least 1 m2 [3]
(b) Given that the straight line y = 3 x + c intersects the curve xy + 3 = 0 at two distinct points,
find the range of values of c [3]

(b) Obtain the first 3 terms in the expansion (1 − p)7 in ascending powers of p.
Hence find the coefficient of x2 in the expansion (1 − 2 x − x 2 )7 [4]
5 (a) Find the number of different 4-letter arrangements that can be formed chosen from
the 7 letters of the word FIXTURE in which the first letter must not be a vowel. [2]

dx 3x − 2
Find (i) the equation of the normal at the point (2,9), [3]
(b) The figure below shows two curves y = f(x) and y = g(x) intersecting at three points (0,0), (1,2)
and (2,0) for 0 ≤ x ≤ 2. It is given that f(x) – g(x) = 2 sin πx.
Find the area of the shaded region as shown in the figure. [4]
(i) Sketch the graph of f and hence state the range of f for the given domain [3]
3x − 2 dy
10 Given that y = , find . Hence calculate [2]
2x +1 dx
(i) the approximate change in y when x increases from 3 to 3+ p where p is small [2]
(ii) the rate of change of x at the instant when x = 1, given that y is changing at the rate of
2.1 units per second at this instant. [3]
