Special Property of Rectangles
 The diagonals of a rectangle are congruent.
Discovery: Rhombus Properties
 Draw a rhombus and then cut it in half once
 What kind of shapes do you get?
 What is true about the sides of this shape?
 What is true about the angles?
Discovery continued
 A rhombus is 2 congruent isosceles triangles:
one on top of the other
 2 of the sides of each isosceles triangle are
congruent
 The base angles are congruent
Special Properties of Rhombi
 Each diagonal of a rhombus bisects 2 angles of the
rhombus
 Recall, bisect means to cut into 2 congruent parts
 Therefore set the angles equal!!!
Special Properties of Rhombi Continued
 The diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular.
 Recall, perpendicular means intersect to form
90 angles.
