    Purpose:

    To become familiar with the new ideas and beliefs of the Enlightenment and the people who
    introduced them. To understand how these ideas drastically changed society and influenced
    further generations.

    Topics:

    • Astronomy

    • Reason/Rationalism

    o Descartes, Locke, Voltair

    • Newton

    • Government/Economics

    o Rousseau, Montesquieu, Adam Smith

    o Enlightened Absolutism

    • How ideas of the Enlightenment were spread

    o Diderot (encyclopedia), Reading, Salons, Literature

    Directions:

    In a PowerPoint presentation clearly outline the following according to your topic:

    1. Belief pre-Enlightenment

    2. What is the new belief/ideas and who is influencing them

    a. Include background on the people

    3. How the new belief/ideas changed/influenced society

    Requirements

    1. Must include two sources other than your textbook
