ACTIVITY 2.

3
(GROUP 3)

1. Why do you think were most intellectual ideas controversial?

Intellectual ideas are controversial because most people aren't free thinkers. When an idea
goes against the predominantly held belief especially religion, most people go through a state of
Cognitive dissonance, a state wherein new ideas challenge a belief that's been held for a very
long time like religion. Usually, those who control the people like the government and religious
leaders want to maintain this state of willful ignorance among the population, therefore, a label
of rebel or heresy is placed upon the intellectual. In 1859, there was a groundbreaking revolution
in both the scientific and religious realms: the origin of species, authored by Charles Darwin,
was published. The book changed how people approach biology forever, and has fundamental
impacts on modern science, religion, and other aspects of the society.

2. Why did the people accept these new discoveries despite being contradictory to what was
widely accepted at that time?
With the continuous development of human education such as math, and different
branches of sciences like Physics, Chemistry, & Astronomy marked the emergence of science in
the early modern period which paved the way for the existence of the Scientific Revolution,
simply referring to the birth of modern science. The evolution of scientific method having a
grasp of understanding how the nature takes it course, it was built upon the foundation of Greek
learnings way back in the Middle Ages. As science gained valid evidence and experimentation to
various thinkers and their development that challenged the ideas of the church. Most people,
Fundamentalists excepted, accept the new version because it works better than the old. When the
heliocentric hypothesis overtook the geocentric model insisted on by the Church, astronomy,
celestial navigation, and other critical technologies suddenly made sense. Science, released from
its theological fetters, sprang ahead and new worlds of study opened. The old system was given
over to astrology.
3. How do intellectual revolutions transform societies?
As we explore the society it is noticeable how far we progress there were laws
appropriate in every situation, there was gender and development awareness. Technologies and
social media became the source of information and a bridge to connect people around the world.
The time we experience technologies we found that there were disadvantages regarding the use
of it with this, lawmakers and communities collaborated to create actions that will address the
problems. It shows the intellectual power of the people to determine dilemmas and apply
accurate solutions to transform the societies in a more conducive place to live. It was a place for
improvement, reconstruction, and a free-will make self-more valuable.
