Assignment 1 - Signals and Systems

1. For a discrete time signal 𝑥[𝑛] given by the following figure;

Find and sketch the signals represented by the following equations

a) 𝑥 [4−𝑛]
b) 𝑥[−𝑛−2]
c) 𝑥 [2𝑛+1]
d) 𝑥 [1/2𝑛−1]
e) 3𝑥[𝑛−1] δ[𝑛−3]
f) 1/2𝑥[𝑛]δ[𝑛+1]

2. Determine the Periodicity of the following. For the Periodic functions also find the
Fundamental Period.
a) 𝑥(𝑡) = (𝑆𝑖𝑛(4𝑡−1))2
b) 𝑥[𝑛] = 𝐶𝑜𝑠(4𝑛+𝜋/4)
c) 𝑥[𝑛] = [−1]n 𝐶𝑜𝑠(2𝜋𝑛/7)

3. Sample the signal (𝑡) using the following impulse functions.

(Hint: sampling is done by using the relation:(𝑡)𝛿(𝑡))
(𝑡) = 1 𝑓𝑜𝑟 −1≤𝑡≤0𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 1≤𝑡≤3

a) Impulse/Sampling Signal

F= ∑ δ (t−k )
k=−∞

b) Impulse/sampling Signal
