Time: 1 Hour 30 Minutes Full Marks: 90

[There are Six questions. Answer Four questions including Q-1 and Q-2. All the questions are of equal
value. Figures in the right margin indicate marks.]

1 a. Sketch the following signal 𝑥(𝑡). [3]

𝑡 + 3; −3 ≤ 𝑡 < −1
2; −1 ≤ 𝑡 < 2
𝑥(𝑡) = { }
−𝑡 + 4; 2 ≤ 𝑡 ≤ 4
0; 𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑤𝑖𝑠𝑒
Find the expression of 𝒙(𝒕) in terms of ramp and step signal only. [3]

Draw the signal if the waveshape is compressed by 2 units and delayed by 3 units of time. [4]

b. State the conditions of an even signal and an odd signal with an example of each. [4]
Find out whether the following signal 𝑥(𝑡) is an odd signal or an even signal or none. If [8.5]
none, then determine the even and odd parts of 𝑥(𝑡).
𝑥(𝑡) = sin 𝜔𝑡 + cos 𝜔𝑡 + sin 𝜔𝑡 cos 𝜔𝑡

2 a. For the system given below, determine whether it is linear or non-linear, with or without [12.5]
memory, time variant or invariant:
𝒚(𝒕) = 𝒎𝒙(𝒕) + 𝒄
where, 𝑚 and 𝑐 are arbitrary constants.
b. Find the output 𝒚(𝒕) of a system for the following input and impulse response [10]
i. Input is 𝒙(𝒕 + 𝟓), and 𝒉(𝒕) = 𝜹(𝒕 − 𝟕)
𝟏 𝟏
ii. 𝒙(𝒕) = 𝒖(𝒕), and 𝒉𝟏 (𝒕) = 𝜹(𝒕 − 𝟐) cascaded with 𝒉𝟐 (𝒕) = 𝜹(𝒕 − 𝟐).

3 a. If 𝑥(𝑡) has the Fourier coefficient, 𝑐𝑛 , then find the coefficient 𝑑𝑛 for [12]
i. the time shifted signal 𝑥(𝑡 − 𝑎)
ii. the time reflected signal 𝑥(−𝑡)
iii. the time scaled signal 𝑥(𝑎𝑡)
