Anand Mahindra (Born on 1 May, 1955) is the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of one of India’s

largest companies, Mahindra & Mahindra. His grandfather KC Mahindra co-founded the company from
his hometown Ludhiana, Punjab.[2] Anand Mahindra resides in his hometown, Mumbai.

[edit]Early life
Anand Mahindra was born into a well-known business family. He graduated magna cum laude
from Harvard College, Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1977, where he was a member of the Phoenix S.K.
Club.[3] and completed his MBA from Harvard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts in 1981.

Mahindra returned to India and joined the Mahindra Ugine Steel Company (MUSCO) as Executive
Assistant to the Finance Director in 1981. He became President and Deputy Managing Director in 1989.
During this time, he spearheaded the Mahindra Group’s diversification into the new business areas of real
estate development and hospitality. In 1991, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director of Mahindra &
Mahindra Ltd. He became the Managing Director in 1997 and took on the additional responsibility of Vice
Chairman in 2003.

Mahindra was a co-promoter of Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd, which was converted into a bank in 2003.

Under Anand Mahindra's leadership, the Mahindra Group has set global ambitions and benchmarks for
success. The company has grown rapidly through both acquisitions and greenfield business development
with several high-profile mergers in the past few years, including the acquisition of Satyam Computer
Services in 2009[5], Reva Electric Vehicles in 2010[6], and Ssangyong Motor Company in 2010[7]. In 2002,
the company launched an indigenously developed SUV, the Scorpio, which today has gone global.
He has recently been ranked amongst the most influential men & women in Mumbai by Daily News and
Analysis.[8]

Mahindra used to play tennis and has now taken up sailing. He studied architecture and film at
Harvard[9] and remains a keen photographer with a strong interest in film. He enjoys listening to the
blues[10] and helped set up an annual Mahindra Blues Festival in Mumbai in 2011. Anand Mahindra has
recently become a regular user of the social media tool Twitter.[11]
