 From The Pastor’s Desk
Dear Parish Family,
Peace and all good! This weekend, the Church
celebrates the midpoint of the holy season of Lent. By
tradition, it is called Laetare Sunday, or Rose Sunday.
The word “laetare” is from the old Latin introductory
prayer (or Introit) for the Mass and it means “Let us
rejoice!” To mark this surprisingly joyful day, the
presider wears rose-colored vestments at Mass—a
visual reminder that Lent is not an end in and of itself,
but rather a path to the joy and beauty of Easter, or
the Resurrection of the Lord. Hang on folks, we’re
halfway there!
So, where, exactly, are we now that we’re halfway
there? What hopes did you hold, what promises did
you make when we started out on Ash Wednesday?
What difference do you want to see in your spiritual
life? In your relationship with God? With yourself ?
With other people? Do you notice anything different
yet? Or are you discouraged and feel like giving up?
Welcome to the human race. If Lent were all about us,
there would be real reason for frustration and
discouragement. We are constantly running into our
limitations. We become all too keenly aware of how
hard it is to change, how difficult it is to accept change.
But Lent is not all about us. It is about God’s grace,
God’s presence, and God’s patience with us
on our journey.
In today’s long Gospel from John (9:1-41, Jesus
graciously restores sight to a man born blind. The
fellow didn’t even ask to be healed; Jesus just went to
work and cured him. His love and healing power were
pure gift, total grace. Jesus is fully ‘present’ to the
man. Gently, tenderly—as if He had all the time in the
world— Jesus reaches down, spits on a bit of dirt to
make a kind of poultice, and then smears it on the
man’s eyelids. Again, at the end of the account, Jesus
is again ‘present’ to the newly-sighted man and
engages him in a conversation that seals the man’s
spiritual healing and conversion.
Jesus comes to each of us in our spiritual blindness,
offering us healing and strength, new insight and well-
being. Most of us come to accept and understand the
gift only gradually. It takes time and effort and a
great deal of patience: it’s about progress, not
perfection. In time, we begin to trust God more, we
become more truly confident and connected. And,
like the formerly blind man, we worry a whole lot less
about what other people say and think. So, hang in
there! We’re on the journey together as the Lord
continues to form and guide us—with His presence,
His patience, and His grace.
Elsewhere in the Parish. This Lent we’ve been
‘fasting’ from making events announcements at Mass.
We’re trying to focus more completely on our com-
mon prayer and worship, while trusting that we can
get the word out about important events through the
screen ads before Mass, the parish bulletin, and our
website.

Sports Court News!

3/15: A SIMPLE APPROACH TO REACHING OUR GOAL

Congratulations! We have now raised more than $132,000 towards the
construction of our OLG Sports Court-- over 40% of our goal. Now to help raise
the remainder, we are asking each family in the parish to consider making a
3-month promise to donate at least $15.00 per month toward the Sports
Court. $15 a month for April, May, and June. It is that simple! Working together, we can reach our goal of
$330,000.00 and complete this project! We will be announcing details next weekend.

Now, it is up to you...3 MONTHS / 15.00 A MONTH...will you 3/15? Together, we can!

Social Concerns Easter
Food Basket Program
For a $40.00 donation, we can provide an
Easter Basket for a needy family containing
everything needed for a delicious feast
including some Easter goodies for the little
ones. If you can’t sponsor an entire family,
please give what you can - every dollar truly helps and is an
expression of our faith and love in action. Our list of hungry
families is long in this difficult economic time. Please mark
your checks “Easter Basket” and place them in the collection.
Donations of hams, turkeys and canned goods are, of course,
always welcome. We appreciate you checking the expiration
dates on all donated cans and packages of food. You may
bring the food to the Social Concerns Department in the
Loretto House during our normal business hours.
To date, parishioners have sponsored 20 families!

 OMMS School Notes
Eat up! Annual Spaghetti Dinner on April 7th
Our Parish School, Old Mission Montessori
School, will be hosting its Annual Spaghetti
Dinner and Scholastic Book Fair on Thursday,
April 7, 2011, from 5:00-7:30 p.m. in the
McKeon Center. Come support our school and enjoy a
yummy spaghetti dinner catered by Rosina’s Italian
Restaurant. Tickets are $6.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors
55+, and $4.00 for children under 10. Your evening meal
includes a generous serving of pasta and a sauce, salad, garlic
bread, and a beverage. Reservations are available by
completing the bottom of the flier (handed out after Mass or
available in the school office) and returning it to the
school office.
Scholastic books for all ages will be available for purchase
that evening. Cash, check, or charge cards are accepted at
the Book Fair. All proceeds from the Spaghetti Dinner &
Book Fair Dinner benefit Old Mission Montessori School. Call

Christmas in July Jewelry Boutique
Last year's jewelry sale helped our school tremendously
thanks to the generous ladies who donated jewelry to the
OMMS Jewelry Boutique. Ladies, we are once again
collecting and we need your help.
Please consider donating your old jewelry (costume, gold or
silver, even broken chains or watches) to help the school
raise funds during the Christmas in July fundraiser. A
drop-off table will be set up outside the Serra Center before
and after Sunday 10 a.m. mass. In addition, you may drop off
your jewelry in the OMMS office on week days or arrange to
give it to me personally. I can be reached at the number

parish school to thrive. Remember to visit The OMMS

Our Old Mission Montessori School is
looking for your “gently” used household
items for our annual Christmas in July
fundraiser. We accept new and used items,
with the exception of clothing and shoes. Donations may be

Stewardship Message

day." - John 9:4
It is important to note that Jesus uses the plural "we" in this
statement and not the singular "I." By saying, "We have to do
the works..." Jesus commands all of us to participate in the
work of God. It is not enough for us to simply know God's
will. We must also do God's will, which means helping and
serving others.

 DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PARROCO…
Querida Familia Parroquial,
¡Paz y todo bien! Este fin de semana, la Iglesia celebra el punto medio de la estación santa de Cuaresma.
Por tradición, éste se le llama el Domingo Laetare o Domingo Rosado. La palabra “laetare” viene de la
plegaria de introducción (o introito) en latín para la Misa y significa “¡Regocijémonos!” Para destacar este
día sorprendentemente gozoso, el sacerdote viste colores rosados en la Misa—un recordatorio visual de
que la Cuaresma no es el fin por si sola, sino más bien, un camino hacia el gozo y la belleza de la Pascua o
de la Resurrección del Señor. ¡Esperen amigos, estamos en la mitad del camino!

¿Entónces, dónde exactamente estamos ahora que nos encontramos en la mitad del camino? ¿Qué
esperanzas has tenido, qué promesas hiciste cuando comenzamos el Miércoles de Ceniza? ¿Qué
diferencias quieres tú ver en tu vida espiritual? ¿En tu relación con Dios? ¿Contigo mismo? ¿Con otra
gente? ¿Has notado ya algo distinto? ¿Estás descorazonado y sientes deseos de dejarlo todo? Bienvenido
a la raza humana. Si la Cuaresma solo se tratara sobre nosotros, debería de haber realmente una razón
para frustración y para desaliento. Nosotros siempre estamos encontrándonos nuestras limitaciones.
Nosotros todos nos encontramos conscientes de lo difícil que es cambiar, lo difícil que es aceptar el
cambio. Pero la Cuaresma no solo trata sobre nosotros. Se trata de la gracia de Dios, de la presencia de
Dios y de la paciencia de Dios con nosotros en nuestra jornada.

En el Evangelio extenso de hoy de Juan (9:1-41), Jesús, en su gracia, restaura la vista de un hombre ciego
de nacimiento. El hombre ni pidió ser sanado; Jesús solo fue a trabajar y lo curó. Su amor y su poder de
sanación fueron un regalo puro y gracia total. Jesús está ‘presente’ plenamente para el hombre.
Gentilmente y con ternura—como si El tuviera todo el tiempo del mundo—Jesús se dobla, escupe sobre
un poco de tierra para hacer una mezcla y luego la unta sobre los ojos cerrados del hombre. De nuevo, al
final del suceso, Jesús está “presente” del hombre—recién llegado y se envuelve en una conversación la
cual sella la sanación espiritual del hombre y de la conversión.

Jesús viene a cada uno de nosotros en nuestra ceguera espiritual, ofreciéndonos sanación y fortaleza,
perspicacia nueva y bienestar. La mayoría de nosotros llega a aceptar y a entender el regalo solo
gradualmente. Esto toma tiempo y esfuerzo y mucha paciencia: Esto trata de progreso no de perfección.
Al tiempo nosotros comenzamos a confiar más en Dios, nosotros nos volvemos más confiados y más
conectados. Y, al igual que el hombre ciego pasado, nosotros nos preocupamos muchísimo menos sobre
lo que otras personas dicen o piensan. ¡Por eso, espera! Estamos en una jornada unidos mientras el Señor
continúa formándonos y guiándonos—con Su Presencia, Su Paciencia y Su Gracia.

Ahora en la Parroquia. En esta Cuaresma nosotros hemos estado ‘ayunando’ al no presentar anuncios de
eventos en la Misa. Estamos tratando de enfocarnos completamente más en nuestra oración y nuestra
adoración, confiando que podríamos anunciar los eventos importantes a través de la pantalla antes del
comienzo de la Misa, del boletín parroquial y de nuestra página de internet.

¡Felicidades! Hemos alcanzado más de $132,000 hacia la
construcción de nuestra Cancha Deportiva Nuestra Señora
de Guadalupe -- más del 40% de nuestra meta. Ahora, para
ayudar a lograr el resto, estamos pidiéndole a cada familia
de la parroquia que consideren hacer una promesa de donar
por lo menos $15 dólares al mes por tres meses hacia la
Cancha Deportiva. $15 dólares mensuales para abril, mayo y
