WiMAX-

Your Mobile Internet

Future
presentation by Zavdoveeva Lena
What is WiMAX?
• WiMAX - is a telecommunications
technology that provides wireless
transmission of data using a variety of
transmission modes, from point-to-
multipoint links to portable mobile internet
access.
Why WiMAX?
WiMAX success stems from a robust
vision incorporating four key strengths:

• Open standards-based.

• Vibrant, growing ecosystem of industry leaders.

• Global economies of scale and more
attractive intellectual property
environment.

• Advanced wireless technology that

enables a faster wireless broadband
solution for doing more on the go.
Uses
The bandwidth and range of WiMAX make
it suitable for the following potential
applications:
• Connecting Wi-Fi hotspots to the Internet.
• Providing a wireless alternative to cable.
• Providing data and telecommunications
services.
How WiMAX Works?

• The WiMAX network includes two key

components: a base station and a
subscriber device.
Souped-Up Wireless

• OFDMA breaks a signal into many

independent pieces.

• MIMO uses multiple antennas at both

ends of the wireless connection.

Mobile WiMAX Standard
• Mobile WiMAX is based on the IEEE
802.16e-2005 standard. And like the
Wi-Fi standard (IEEE 802.11), IEEE
802.16 will continue to evolve with new
innovations and features.
