How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Main product- Newspaper Article.

Ancillary texts- Newspaper website and advert.

The two ancillary texts; newspaper website and advert were both crucial in the elevation of
my main product. Newspapers are a form of traditional media but with the help of new
media such as website and advertisement, the size of the target audience is vaster and
makes it easily accessible for the viewers. Most newspapers have websites these days, and
it is becoming increasingly common for these websites to provide all sorts of services that
can be useful for readers’ purposes. Even though the conventions of a newspaper and
website are somewhat different, they have to have a bridge that connects them, this is
usually done through the identifiable masthead and headlines. Constructing the website
included the continuation of my masthead colour and font type, I also carried on the main
story to link and make it noticeable that this is the website to ‘Wembley Life’.

The next step was to promote my newspaper in the design of an advert. Newspaper
advertising is one of the oldest and most popular media promotions. Printed word
commands attention and is, therefore, a very popular media of advertising. The ad enables
the promoter to communicate with a large number of people. Just like with the website
construction, I continued on with the same masthead colour and font type to bridge the link
between the newspaper and advert, I then added a simple but sharp quote to finish it off.

The combination of the main product and ancillary texts was very effective; it allowed me to
extend my target audience to a wider range. The intentions of the ancillary texts was of
informational and promotional purposes and without them it would’ve been harder for my
newspaper to be known and readers would have little information engendered about it.
