21st Century Business Collaboration

Independent Study Program (ISP)


When: Fall 2008

Who: MBA students (no more than 3)

How: Elective (3 credits)

Purpose: To research, analyze and compile relevant material for developing a full
course offering (in Spring 2008?)

Scope: ISP will include the following (may be expanded as needed):

1. Research business and academic sources for

a. What is Business Collaboration in 21st Century

b. How and why has it changed

c. Process and Enablers (e.g. Technologies)

d. Strategic implications (business strategies, innovation, organizations,


etc.)

2. Select 5 to 6 industries and 2-3 companies in each industry to research and


describe their collaborative practices

a. Research “best practices”

b. Experiences (successes and challenges)

3. Identify and recommend 3 to 5 books (text, trade, etc.)

4. Develop course outline/topics

5. Develop slides (with notes, where possible/appropriate)

6. Identify case material and potential projects

Procedure:

1. Student(s) will be given weekly assignments

2. Student(s) will meet with the instructor on a weekly basis (at least one hour)
to review progress, questions and open discussion
3. Student(s) will be evaluated based on effort, quality of work and
imitativeness
