On Jan 23 2010, four clubs of Olympia College Ipoh went on a visit to the Handicapped Children’s

Welfare Home at Housing Trust in Ipoh. As Chinese New Year is round the corner, the students wanted
to share some of the festivity with those that are less fortunate.

Comprised of the Student Council, Executive Business Club, Cyber Club and Interact Club, about 20
students and 3 lecturers gathered at Olympia College Ipoh at 10 am. In the group were 3 foreign
students from Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan.

They set off at 10:15 am to the home which has about 80 residents, with ages ranging from 10 to 50.
Some of the residents have lived in the home for 20 over years.

The students had earlier conducted food sales to get funds for the visit. They also went around to
classes to get their college mates and staff to donate at least RM 1. A total of RM 300+ was collected.
With the money, the students bought diapers, hair shampoo, body shampoo, Dettol, Milo, noodles,
Chinese herbs, floor cleaning detergent and laundry detergent. The items were requested by the home.

Olympia College Ipoh sponsored the packed lunch of fried rice and fried beehoon, which was served to
the residents by lecturers. After lunch, the residents were entertained to some singing and simple
games.

While at the home, students also spring-cleaned it by wiping window panes, ceiling fans and fixing
broken window and door latches. Others cleared up the yard, and helped the residents set up a
vegetable patch.

The students left the home at about 2.30 pm, hot and tired but pleased that they have brightened
someone’s day.
