A fraction is a part of a whole or part of a set. A set is a collection of

objects. The symbol used to represent a fraction has one number over
the other. The bottom number is called the denominator. The top
number is the numerator. The line in between the numerator and
denominator is known as the fraction bar. It is also called the division
bar.

2 = numerator
3 = denominator

The denominator tells the number of equal parts in the whole or equal
parts in a set.

The numerator tells how many equal parts are being considered.
