EXPLAINING

FRACTIONS
What are fractions?
Fractions represent the parts of a whole or collection of objects. A
fraction has two parts. The number on the top of the line is called the
numerator. It tells how many equal parts of the whole or collection are
taken.  The number below the line is called the denominator.  It shows
the total number of equal parts the whole is divided into or the total
number of the same objects in a collection.
Simplifying fractions
Simplifying fractions is making a complex fraction like 27/54
to a more simple one like ½. A way to do is to find the prime
factors of the numerator and denominator and cancel 2 factors
which are the same like in this example:
Addition and subtraction of fractions
When adding and subtracting alike denominators we just simply add and subtract
the numerators
When we are adding or subtracting different denominators we multiply the
denominators to their lowest common multiple. And then multiply the numerators
with the same amount we multiplied the denominator.
Multiplying and division of fractions
In multiplying fractions you just multiply the denominators together and the
numerators together, and then simplify. Or if any of numerators got a common
factor with any of denominators you simpilfy both of them with their highest
common factor.

Division of fractions
In division we use the way KCF Keep, Change and flip. Keep the first fraction as it is.
Change the division sign to the multiplication sign. And finally, flip the second
fraction. For example 2/5 make it 5/2.
Improper fractions
Improper fractions are fractions where the numerator is higher the denominator.
And the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of improper fractions is
the same as normal fractions

23/13, 54/27
Mixed numbers
A mixed number is a number consisting of a whole number and a
proper fraction. And like fractions they can be added, subtracted,
multiplied or divided.
Addition and subtraction of mixed numbers
Adding a mixed number is slightly like addition of fractions. You add the
whole numbers and then add the fractions. In subtraction you also just
subtract the whole numbers and then subtract the fractions. But what if in
the first mixed number the fraction is smaller in value than the fraction in
the next mixed number. You borrow from the whole number like in this
example:
The relation between a fraction and a decimal
A decimal number is a special to write fractions like for example the fraction 2/5
which mean 0.4 and the mixed number 1 ½ which means 1.5
Summary
A fraction is a part of number like the quarter of 1 is ¼
An improper fraction is a fraction but the numerator is larger than the
denominator
A mixed number is a whole number and a fraction
