Goodbye, Kindergarten...Hello, First Grade!

Dear Families, I cant believe that the last day of kindergarten is already upon us! This year has been a blur as we spent time together learning, laughing, and growing. From our first steps into our temporary classroom last fall to our exciting move to the beautiful new wing, we have had a year to remember! When asked what their favorite kindergarten memories were, children had a lot to share: learning about Native Americans, singing the Gum Ball song, going to the Flynn, Reading Buddies, P.E., planting in the school garden, and ladybugs! were just a handful of the things that we did together this year. I am so proud of all of the students hard work and I am amazed at the growth that has taken place before my very eyes! This group of children is heading off to first grade ready to face new and exciting challenges and opportunities. Thank you so much for sharing your children with me this year and thank you for your support, both in the classroom and at home. I hope you all enjoy a restful and rejuvenating summer with your first graders! Sincerely,

Summer Fun!
Parents often ask, What can I do to ensure my child doesnt lose important skills over the summer? I recommend that you read, read, and read some more. Talk about books, read them together, practice finding letters and words your child is familiar with. I found a great website that has some suggestions, as well: http:// us.penguingroup.com/static/packages/us/ yreaders/summerreading/ kindergartenfifthgrade.html
You can also practice letter writing, number writing, play counting games, and observe numbers and letters in the environment around you. Most important, have fun and spend time together.
