The Girl Who Wasnt Scared Annie Besant

1. Furry went to the Spider School. He was the youngest and smallest spider and also the smartest. But Furry had one BIG problem he didnt like scaring people, especially little children. His teacher was fed up with him and his parents were worried about him. If he didnt scare an adult or child before the semester was out, he would fail school. Furry knew everybody would laugh at him. He sat in his corner of the ceiling and sniffed. He had no choice; he just had to scare somebody. Furry thought he was going to cry when in bounced a little girl. Amma, Im home, she shouted. Furry rolled out his string behind him and swung after her.

2. His little heart beat quickly. If he could scare her, he would pass his test! Furry watched as the little girl bounced

3 clapped her hands, stomped her feet and hummed a tune. Amma! she shouted again. Where are you?

4. The little girl ran into the living room. Maybe her mother was watching TV? No! The TV was off. Furry clung to his string as the girl ran here and there, pushing switches on and off. How am I going to scare her if she keeps running around? Furry thought to himself, feeling sadder by the minute. He finally got his chance when the little girl stopped in her tracks.

5. Furry ran down as fast as he could and wet his lips. Then, taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes, stuffed his legs into his ears and shouted TWEEK (That is what little spiders are taught to say in school to scare people). But what the little girl heard was a GROWL that came from her stomach. And off she went like a butterfly launching into the sky.

6. There she goes again, groaned the spider as the little girl ignored him and followed her stomach to the kitchen. Furry rushed desperately after her.

7. He flew through the air and somersaulted in front of her. STOP! he shouted.

8. The little girl stared at him wide-eyed. She slowly grinned. A spider! she shouted in glee. Poor Furry, before he knew it, she was blowing on him softly. He swung to and fro on his silk thread, and almost burst into tears.

9. But the little girl was having too much fun to stop. I wonder how far I can blow him, she thought. Then, she inhaled deeply and exhaled, tossing Furry around like a leaf caught in a storm. The spider clung to his string, afraid to fall down.

10. Shes scaring me, Furry thought, panic making his heart run like a horse. There was only one thing left to do surrender.

11. The little girl laughed and said, Where did you come from Mr. Spider? How did you escape my Ammas cleaning? Furry trembled the girl was actually talking to him! He decided to run back to the ceiling. Dont be scared, the little girl said. I wont hurt you. My name is Amulu. What is your name?

(inside box: My teacher is going to be so angry!) 12. Furry timidly told her his name and before he could help himself told her all about his school, his teacher and his fear of failing. He also told her how the baby spiders were taught to crawl like a train on little childrens arms.

12. Amulu listened to him and felt sorry for the little spider. She was always afraid of failing her exams too, and felt unhappy when her teachers scolded her.

13. Then an idea appeared in her head. Like melted chocolate, it warmed her to her toes and she jumped up. I know what to do! she squealed.

14. Fuussssfuussssfuussssfuussssfuussssfuussssfuussssfuussss Amulu said in Furrys ears. Kichkichkichkichkich? Furry asked. Fuussssfuussssfuussssfuussss, Amulu replied with a big grin.

15. Furry and Amulu looked at each other. Furry winked and said TWEEK. Amulu threw back her head, took a deep breath and shouted, AAAAHHHHH!

16. She fell on the floor and hiding her face in her hands, sobbed and sobbed her eyes out. Even Furry thought, for a minute, that his new friend was really scared of him. Please dont crawl over me Mr.Spider, Amulu sobbed. Then, she peeped through her fingers, winked again at Furry and leapt up.

17. How was that, Furry? she asked, her eyes shining with happiness. Was I scared enough? Furry nodded.

18. Yippee! Amulu said cheerfully. Then, her nose quivered. I know that smell, Furry! she exclaimed. And that smell means hot, crunchy, sticky, sugary, syrupy jalebis made by Amma!

19. Amulu rushed to the kitchen with Furry and they partied by munching on some delicious jalebi curls.

20. The next day, in class, Furry told his teacher and fellow crawlies about how he scared the girl (who really wasnt scared).
