OBJECTIVES
The paper tends to: (1) enrich the knowledge and skills of the participants in growing sugarcane for muscovado sugar production by giving them updated production technologies, and (2)to broaden and strengthen their knowledge to produce efficiently quality muscovado sugar efficiently.

VITAL

INFORMATION
Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum sp) is cultivated for its juice with high sucrose or sugar content. Cane ready for harvest consist of 24% trash (clean and dry leaves, canepoints, bull shoots, dried stalks, etc.), 58% millable stalks and 18% roots and stubbles

CANE QUALITY REQUIREMEMT

High tonnage production is second only in importance to high sugar content in muscovado sugar production. Canes for muscovado manufacturing should be mature, non-trashy and still fresh at the time of milling not to exceed 3 days from cutting.
