1.
: It rotates in the electromagnet field produced by the stator winding to produce AC by Faradays Law of Electromagnetic Induction . This AC is fed to the AVR from where after being brought to a convenient level it is sent to the control panel for further usage . It is also known as the Pilot Excitor and contains 16 poles . On each pole pieces of soft iron are screwed at 110 N-M torque .
2.
BLOWER
: It performs the function of cooling . As the exciter rotates at 3000 rpm , a high voltage DC is produced . The i2 r losses cause the components of exciter to heat up . So an inbuilt structure like a fan with inclined blades is coupled with the exciter shaft to rotate at 3000 rpm and cause cooling .This is known as the blower .
3.
ARMATURE
: It is also called the main exciter . It consists of the Active region and the overhang region .It has two layer wave winding . The wave winding is used instead of lap winding because we want a high output current . It has 72 slots with 2 conductors per slot making a total of 144 armature conducters .The stampings are made of silicon steel and it has a separate section for Earth Fault Monitoring.
4.
BALANCING RING :
It is a circular ring which contains some balancing weights . Its sole purpose is to see that the rotation of the armature and the diode wheels on the exciter shaft are synchronised .It is made of Brass.

COLLECTION RINGS
silver coated .
INTERMEDIATE RINGS
: They are made up of brass and they contain CC Bolts (Current Carrying Bolts)
AC LEAD : Lines for carrying AC. DC LEAD : Lines for carrying DC . They are four in number.
