1.

Interview a member of staff in your centre to find out their views on the importance of verbal communication skills in their job. Prepare your questions in advance, listen to their answers and make notes about what you are told. Then prepare a brief verbal presentation to your group to summarise your findings. Your tutor will then give you feedback on your performance. P 2. Your centre is planning to open a new student common room, which will provide state-of-the-art facilities. Each group has been asked for ideas about what it should contain. Hold a discussion, which your tutor will lead, to put forward your own suggestions and, as a group, agree on the best three to put forward. Your tutor will provide feedback on your performance afterwards. 3. Reflect upon your own performance in Tasks 1 and 2 and summarise your strengths and weaknesses in a report to your tutor. Use the feedback you have received to help you. For Task 2, you should give examples of particular points in the group discussion to support your answers. You can also refer to the strengths and weaknesses of other group members if this is appropriate. 4. Write an email to Kerry in which you assess the effectiveness of speaking and listening skills in supporting business operations at Atherton's estate agency. This means looking back at the WorkSpace case study and the leaflet you prepared for Kerry in Assessment activity 7.2 (page 171) and applying your knowledge of speaking and listening to this context.
