UNIT-I ALTERNATOR 1.

A 3-phase, 16 poles, star connected Alternator has 240 stator slots with 8 conductors per slot and the conductor of each phase are connected in series. The coil span is 144 electrical degrees. Determine the phase and line emfs if the machine speed is at 375 rpm and the flux per pole is 0.06 Wb distributed sinusoid ally in the air gap. (Ans.Kd =0.957, Kp =0.951, f=50Hz, T=320, Eph =3.943kV, EL=6.829kV) 2. A 3-phase, star-connected Alternator supplies a load of 10MW at 0.8pf lagging and at 11kV. Its effective resistance is 0.1 /ph and Synchronous reactance is 0.7 /ph. Calculate the line value of emf generated. (Ans. Vph=6.351kV, IL= Ia=656.06A, Eph=6687.08kV, EL=11.582kV) 3. A 3-phase, 4-pole, star connected turbo-Alternator has a smooth cylindrical type rotor. The effective resistance and Synchronous reactance per phase are 0.5 and 2.5 . Calculate the voltage regulation when delivering 250A at 6.6kV and at 0.6pf lagging. (Ans. Vph=3810.51V, Eph=4346.72V, EL=7528.74V, % VR=14.07%) 4. A 3-phase, 1.0MVA 11kV, star connected Alternator has the effective resistance and Synchronous reactance are 0.7 and 12 per phase. Determine the percentage voltage regulation for a load of 600kW at 0.8pf leading and at rated voltage.

5. A 3-phase, star connected Alternator is rated at 1.5MVA at 3.3kV. The effective resistance and Synchronous reactance are 0.08 and 1.5 per phase. Calculate the percentage voltage regulation for a load of 1.0MW at rated voltage and at pf of (i) 0.8 lagging and (ii) 0.8 leading.
