1. The standard I have chosen is (AASL 1b) Candidates use a variety of strategies to promote leisure reading.

2. My target audience includes the following characteristics: 1. Age: Middle school (Eighth graders) ages 13-14 years 2. Cultural background: 3 African American; 1 Asian American; 5 Caucasian; 1 Native American 3. Educational Level: Middle school (Eighth grade) 4. Specific entry skills: 2 High ability learners; 4 average learners; 3 classified with learning disability; 1 slow learner 5. Learning styles (based on Gardners Multiple Intelligences): Varied 6. Motivation (Based on the ARCS Model): The Page Brigade is a program that includes the middle school learners visiting a local elementary schools media center and promoting leisure reading by interacting with the schools first graders through reading their favorite childrens book. Attention: Students will find this lesson/activity interesting due to the fact it gives them a chance to decide on their own what book they will use in the activity. By giving them an opportunity to choose, they feel they have some control over how they learn. Relevance: This lesson promotes the students as contributing citizens and places them in the role as leader and, in a way, teacher. Confidence: This lesson is manipulated in a way that it seems fun, more like field trip since it takes them out of the classroom. By doing this, the student uses the book they have selected in order to share with first graders. Satisfaction: The learner will have contributed to their community by promoting leisure reading and provide academic success by instilling a sense of selfsatisfaction.

3. My objectives for our presentation are as follows: Audience: The learner will gain an appreciation of reading through their interaction with first graders while promoting themselves as contributing citizens by displaying their enjoyment of reading. Behavior: The learner will demonstrate acquired skills through writing pre-activity and post-activity journal entries. Conditions: Given a favorite childrens book and personal reflection on the book, the learner will actively promote their love of reading to first grade students all the while keeping a journal on their experience. Degree: The learner will fulfill components based on rubric covering participation and journal requirements.
