INTRODUCTION

Eclipse: Eclipses are the shadows formed in nature. The sun, the source of
light when throws light rays on opaque objects such as moon the shadows
are formed. The shadows cast by the earth and the moon are called Eclipses.
We have two types of Eclipse:
1). Lunar Eclipse or Eclipse of the moon
2). Solar Eclipse or Eclipse of the sun
Lunar Eclipse or Eclipse of the Moon:

When the earth, the moon and the sun are in the straight line such that
the earth is between the sun and the moon cannot be seen because it cannot
be illuminated by sun. Shadow of earth on moon causes lunar eclipse.

Occurrence:

Lunar eclipse therefore occurs when the light dose not fall on the
object (the moon) and it gets completely blocked by an obstacle ( the earth)

Types:

1. Total lunar eclipse

2. Partial lunar eclipse

Total lunar eclipse:

When the whole moon is in the umbra of the earth it is known as total
lunar eclipse.
Partial lunar eclipse:

During partial lunar eclipse only a part of moon visible and the part of
moon that falls under the umbra of the earth is not visible
Solar Eclipse or Eclipse of the sun:

When the moon, the earth and the sun are in a straight line such that
the moon is in between the earth and the sun, solar eclipse occurs. Shadow
of moon on earth causes solar eclipse.

Occurrence:

Solar eclipse therefore occurs when the view of source of light (the
sun) is blocked for the observer (on earth) because of an obstacle (the moon)
that comes in between the source of light ( the sun) and the observer ( on the
earth)

Types:

1. Total Solar Eclipse

2. Partial Eclipse

Total solar eclipse:

Total solar eclipse means when people cannot see the sun at all.
Partial eclipse:

Partial eclipse occurs when a part of the sun is not visible or when
only a part of the sun is visible.
