SC dismisses last petition

No impediment for the next five years term as President for Musharraf.
Musharraf to be sworn in as civilian president early this week

Islamabad, Pakistan, Nov 23rd (BosNewsLife): The Supreme court (SC) of Pakistan
has paved the path for General Pervez Musharraf by dismissing the sixth and last petition,
challenging his eligibility for the office of President of Pakistan for another five years term. The
apex court had dismissed five petitions filed against him earlier on Monday.

SC’s verdict is expected today on Friday, November 23, 2007, which will allow Election
Commission (EC) of Pakistan to issue the results of earlier held presidential polls. Earlier SC had
allowed the Presidential polls take place on Oct 6th, 2007 but barred EC from publicizing the
results until the apex court gives a verdict about the petitions challenging the candidacy of
Musharraf as President of Pakistan.

According to un-official results came forward so far General Pervez Musharraf won the elections
with a landslide victory, but official results are yet to be announced. “Now EC has no impediment
in issuing the results of land sliding victory of Musharraf in the Presidential polls”, said
Musharraf’s legal adviser Syed Sharif-ud-Din Pirzada.

SC full bench headed by the Chief Justice (CJ) of Pakistan Abdul Hameed Dogar gave the verdict
after a short hearing of the petition filed by Dr. Zahoor Mehdi. The Chief Justice after hearing
said “The petition is dismissed”, on Thursday Nov 22nd, 2007.

The EC will handover the presidential polls results to the Interior Ministry and they will
disseminate the results and announce the land sliding victory of General Pervez Musharraf.

After the announcement is made about the General Musharraf’s victory and official results are
made public, General Pervez Musharraf is likely to step down as Army Chief and expected to
take oath as civilian president of Pakistan for the next five years tenure by early next week.
