The Associative Property of Addition: For any numbers a, b, and, c, OR When adding multiple numbers you can group them together how ever you want! Examples: (2+1)+5=2+(1+5) (4+3)+2=4+(3+2) (9+0)+1=9+(0+1) (a+b)+c=a+(b+c)

Measures with Different Units When combining two measurements they must have the same units. Example 1: Brian was 4 feet 11 inches tall at the beginning of 5th grade. He grew two and half inches during the school year. How tall was Brian at the end of the school year? Express your answer in inches.

Example 2: Senora Valle bought a 15-inch tomato plant. During the first month after she planted it, it grew 3 and one fourth inches. During the next two months it grew half a foot. What is the height of the tomato plant after 3 months? Express your answer in feet and inches.
