Proxemics
Proxemics, derived from the Latin term Proxemus meaning "nearest" is how people communicate non-verbally through the use of territory. Why is Proxemics important?

The "zones" are represented through cultural conditioning (territory) and learned body queus (non-verbal). Typically the large zone includes an avoidance of touch. Some people may perceive this behavior as reserved, distant, and void of emotion. Small zone is typified by a close personal contact between individuals.

Public space constitutes 12'-25'. A familiar example is of a speaker in front of an audience at a rally. Social space generally consists of 4'-12'. Most commonly this is experienced at a business meetings. Personal space is often called the 3' bubble. It is described through the verbiage of "leg room." Intimate space is considered 6"-18", ands commonly recognized through personal and intimate relations.
