Microorganisms are small living things that can only be seen through a microscope Microorganisms can be found anywhere on earth. Some microorganisms are useful to humans while others maybe harmful. There are various type of microorganisms. Generally, microorganisms can be classified into five main groups which are a) Bacteria b) Viruses c) Fungi d) Protovoa e) Algae Microorganisms are classified to common characteristics such as a) Size b) Shape c) Method of reproduction d) Nutrition e) Habitat

1. 2. 3. Bacteria have various size between 0.5-10 m (1m=0.001 mm). Bacteria are very small unicellular microorganisms. Bacteria can only be observed by using a light microscope under a high power magnification

1. 2. 3. 4. Bacteria do not have a true nucleus. The nucleus of the bacteria is scattered in the cytoplasm because bacteria do not have nucleus membranes. Bacteria have cell membrane and cell walls but the cell walls are not derived from cellulose. Bacteria can be classified according to their shapes which are coccus, bacillus, vibrio and spirillum.
